NOTE: The Abseil at St Peter's Church, Edgmond, on Saturday 21st April has had to be cancelled following the withdrawal of participation by the Hockey Club.

The County Activity Weekend 2012 takes place on Saturday May 12 & Sunday May 13 at the Shrewsbury Showground.  Camping
is available for two nights - Friday 11 May and Saturday 12 May. 
 
Activities include kayaking, air rifle shooting, archery, climbing, abseiling, backwoods cooking, crafts, crate stacking, juggling and           
orienteering. In addition, an RAF helicopter will be present at some time over the wekeend, and there will be displays by the Army, the
Fire Service, and others.  As a registered participant you will also have free admission to the Antiques Fair taking place elsewhere on 
the Showground.
 
The theme for the weekend is the centenary of Captain Scott's expedition to the Antarctic. Sledge pulling will be offered - see how you fare
trying to move a 600lb sledge!  On Saturday evening, there will be a fancy dress competition, with prizes for the best 3 outfits on the
Antarctic theme.
 
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are all welcome, whether they come as a group with their leaders, or with family and friends.
 
At 5.30 pm on Saturday 12 May the newly created Andy Miles Centre for kayaking and canoeing will be formally opened by John Abram,  
High Sheriff of Shropshire, and all attending the Activity Weekend are invited to attend the opening ceremony.
 
Camping costs £20 per head for the weekend including all activities, and Saturday night entertainment plus a free burger. The fancy dress
competition on Saturday evening is themed The Antarctic, with prizes for the best three outfits.
 
Day rates are £6 per head including all activities.

Donnington Scouts Complete Community Challenge

Scouts from 2nd Donnington Scout Group in Tern Valley District have been working towards their Community challenge badge along with the local police force.

Having expressed an interest in completing this challenge badge they got in touch with PC Scott and her team from the local police station and have been awarded the Community Challenge Badge Friday 1st July 2011.Click Here for more details.

    Boreatton Scouts France Trip

Scouts from Shropshire Borders District entered a team that came 2nd in the UK National finals of the Scalextric4schools DT competition! (Hurrah!).

They each won £30 worth of scalextric cars and as a team won a Lewis Hamilton track kit worth £120, so a serious prize, but more importantly won lots of Glory! (actually, they prefer their prize cars).

Shropshire Star said they'd come and see us this week so we may be in the paper w/e 1st July 2011...

Bridgnorth Cubs & Scouts celebrate top Awards at County Annual Meeting June 16th 2011
 
 It was great to have a packed to capacity Shewsbury Abbey where both young people's and adults efforts over the last 12 months were recognised. Click here for a copy of the Annual Report 2011 
 

At a ceremony in Shrewsbury Abbey recently, four Cub Scouts from the 8th Bridgnorth Scout Group were awarded the Chief Scout's Silver award by the Scouts' County Commissioner, Danny Potter. This award is for those who complete a minimum of 6 Challenge  Badges.  Most completed more Challenges than that!  They range from Promise, Community, Fitness Challenges to Global and Creative to Outdoor Challenges.

 

The ceremony was part of the County Scouts AGM and was attended by Senior members of the Scouting movement in Shropshire as well as civic and other dignitaries from throughout the County.
